Another glorious morning at Cabarita on the Tweed Coast greeted senior competitors at the 2017 Australian Surf Festival this morning with Over 40’s Men’s quarter finals hitting the water first.

With a little southerly pulse rapping around the point, surfers had plenty of clean canvas to work with, and work they did with style and grace on display.

Ben Dickens (NSW) was one of the form surfers in the Over 40’s Men’s quarters, posting a heat total of 14.75pts (out of a possible 20pts) and backing it up with a 13.10pt heat total in the semi’s while Jason Livingston (NSW) stepped it up a gear with a 14.50pt heat total in the same heat to join Dickens, Nigel Canterbury (NSW) and Ben Johnson (QLD) in tomorrow’s final.

Richard Smith (NSW) was one of the standout performers in the Over 50’s Men’s quarters with the highest heat score of 16.00pts, posting a single wave in the excellent range of 8.75pts (out of a possible 10pts) to join Jason Russell (SA), Hayden Swan (QLD) and Greg Brown (VIC)in tomorrow’s final.

Smith put on a stylish display of smooth surfing with superior wave choice, firing a warning shot to his challengers ahead of tomorrow’s final.
